Intermediate, 2-3 Hours, 5 Miles Round Trip

Description

Start out at the Poulsbo Marina and make your way southeast, passing by the marinas. Liberty Bay is quite protected and while you don’t have to hug the shore, it is best not to paddle out in the middle of the bay except when crossing from one side to the other. After two miles of paddling you should come up to Keyport on the south shore at the mouth of the bay. You can stop by in town and grab a bite to eat or paddle around the small bay to your right and picnic at Keyport Saltwater Park. On your way back, you can just head back the way you came, or paddle along the south shore to do a loop of the bay.

Special Considerations

Liberty Bay is busy with boat traffic, be mindful of your surroundings and your own visibility, particularly around the marinas. Seals in the area have grown accustomed to people and can at times be aggressive; stay aware and enjoy all wildlife from a respectful and safe distance.

Going Farther

From Poulsbo, Keyport marks the halfway point on your way to Brownsville where overnight camping is available.
