Celebrate with friends old and new\, and take in the natural beauty of the Peninsula’s shorelines. Don’t miss this once a year opportunity and Ride the Tide!\nWhat is “Ride The Tide (RTT)”?\nRTT is the annual Kitsap Peninsula National Water Trail (KPNWT) Paddle that is held each year to bring attention to our 371 mile National water trail. The Ride the Tide paddle is about eight tide assisted miles and will take 2-3 hours to complete. Starting at the Port of Silverdale Boat Ramp\, we will paddle south through the Port Washington Narrows and past Bremerton with the current that flows like a river and finish at the beach in Port Orchard\, WA. \nFor more KPNWT info please visit their site\, KPNWT website. \nFor more info on the National Park Service\, National Water Trail System\, click here. \nWhat is The History of RTT?\nIn 1992\, John Kuntz (owner\, Olympic Outdoor Center) and Robb Nichols paddled the entire coastline of the Kitsap Peninsula for fun and during this time John formulates a plan for a water trail to encompass the entire coastline. Twenty plus years and thousands of hours and hundreds of volunteers and organizations it became a reality. John will be on the trip this year. \nIn June 2014\, the Kitsap Peninsula Water Trail was designated a National Water Trail by the National Park Service\, one of only a handful in the country at the time and the first salt water trail. Our 371 mile trail encompasses all of the Kitsap Peninsula and is one of the most spectacular paddling destinations in the world. Come out and join us as we celebrate the wonderful\, majestic and diverse natural resources the peninsula has to offer. For more history visit KPNWT History Page. \nCelebrate a decade of adventure on the trail with our upcoming anniversary event\, Ride the Tide: Kitsap Peninsula Water Trails Anniversary Rendezvous on June 8\, 2024. \nWhat is the Route of RTT?\nThe paddle will go from the SIlverdale Waterfront Park to the Port Orchard waterfront park. We classify paddle Bainbridge as suitable for all skill levels since we mitigate risk and conditions are generally calm. Paddlers still need to be able to paddle for up to 4 hours at a time. \nNot able to make it this time\, but still want to have some fun out on the water? Click here for our Summer Calendar! \n\nWhat’s Included:\n\nSnack Pack and Water\nProfessional Guides & Safety Boaters on the water\nShuttle\n$5 donation to Kitsap Peninsula Water Trails\n\nWhat to Expect \n\nThis year we will be paddling from Eagle Harbor to Fay Bainbridge Park (south to north) but this could change with weather.\nThe shuttle will take place before the paddle.\nYou will be paddling 8.6 miles. You can paddle about as fast as you can walk so that’s about 3 hours paddle time.\n*Paddlers should expect a decent amount of physical activity and exercise.\nWe have very little tide variance this day so we will not be helped by any current as in other paddles. \nWind is expected to be light but we will have some wind waves later in the day and freighter wakes.\nYou will be paddling close to shore but conditions will be exposed so bring some warm clothes.\nWe are providing a snack and water but you will want to bring more food like energy bars

SUMMARY:Beach Monitoring -Sunrise Beach Park
DESCRIPTION:Winter is coming. Break out the foul weather gear\, put new batteries in your head lamp\, and join Harbor WildWatch for an exciting night of citizen science at the beach! During the winter monitoring months\, it just so happens that the lowest tides are during the dark of the night which adds an adventurous twist to our monitoring procedures. Hence\, the need for a headlamp. Winter Beach Monitoring is also a great excuse to visit your favorite beaches at night when parks are normally closed. Having extra assistance during these nighttime events makes an incredible difference in our ability to collect information about the organisms living on the beach. Remember\, you don’t have to have a science background to participate\, nor are you required to stay for the entire duration of the typically 3 hour program. Mark your calendar for any or all of these upcoming events and come do some science with Stena and Mike Behrens! \nBecause this event is a mix of only the best conditions\, COLD\, DARK\, and WET\, here is a list of items to think about having with you: Headlamp\, rain coat\, rain pants\, rain boots\, fleece or wool layers\, toe warmers\, hand warmers\, neck gator\, hat\, gloves\, thermos of warm beverage\, adventurous attitude! \nDirections: \nSunrise beach is a turnoff to the left from Moller Drive NW. We will meet in the parking area near an old garage. There is a small hike down a hill to the beach. The monitoring site is near the beach entrance\, you can’t miss us! Meet in the parking area\, 8:45pm

SUMMARY:Beach Monitoring - Narrows Park
\nDirections: \nMeet at the top of the hill\, before the entrance gate\, 10pm. We will close the gate behind us (~10:10pm) so please arrive on time. Despite the name\, this park is on the Gig Harbor side of the bridge. Through the gate\, you will enjoy a tree-rich drive down to the parking area. As you walk down the concrete path to the beach\, our monitoring site is a ways down the beach to your right.

SUMMARY:Cocktails & Fishtales: Investing in Ecosystem Service Credits
DESCRIPTION:Theda Braddock\, adjunct professor at the University of Washington-Tacoma\, will join us to discuss ecosystem service credits. The EPA defines these credits as the products of functioning ecosystems that benefit people. For example: these credits might come in the form of incentive for landowners in exchange for managing their land in a way that provides an ecological service or benefit. \n— \nCocktails & Fishtales is a science-social series for ages 21 and over.
